Against the backdrop of war, Ukrainian firefighters rescue civilians in difficult conditions. Often, rescuers find themselves at locations targeted by enemy bombs.
In Ukraine, the city of Kharkiv is targeted every day by missiles, glide bombs and kamikaze drones. At the foot of a ravaged residence, firefighters are looking for victims. When they are not in intervention, they tirelessly train to rescue civilians in the most difficult conditions. In a barracks, men are on duty four days, 24 hours a day. Firefighters regularly have to take shelter while bombs fly over the city.
A 30-year-old young man lost his father, also a firefighter and truck driver. The man was responding with his father after a missile strike when the Russians targeted the rescuers. “We were sent to the scene of a strike. While we were putting out the fire, we received information that several kamikaze drones were flying in our direction“, he remembers.
