Firefighter misses call after fall

A large rescue operation was still underway to save a firefighter who allegedly sank in the waters of the Lachine Canal on Sunday in Montreal.

According to our information, the wanted man is a firefighter from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).

He had been dispatched to the Lachine Rapids around 7 p.m. to help two people in distress on a boat.

During this operation, a SIM boat with four firefighters capsized. Still according to our sources, three of them were rescued, but one last was still missing on Sunday evening.

“For the moment, we still haven’t found him and the operation is underway. I don’t have any more details, ”explained Véronique Comtois, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department.

The Canadian Coast Guard, just like the emergency services of other municipalities around, including the firefighters of Longueuil and those of Varennes, were called in to reinforce the scene as part of this operation.

Hypothermia

Sources who participated in the operation mentioned in Newspaper that both individuals were hypothermic.

A Sûreté du Québec helicopter was also requested on the scene.
