Before this, a procession of firefighters will head from the Grand Quai of the Port of Montreal to the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. In order to allow as many people as possible to attend the funeral, they will be broadcast live on the City of Montreal’s YouTube account, on giant screens at Place d’Armes, as well as in a room at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. .

On the evening of October 17, Pierre Lacroix was aboard the capsized fire boat attempting to rescue two boaters aboard a boat adrift in the Lachine rapids. The others were saved, but Mr. Lacroix got stuck under the boat. After being located during the night and having been extirpated after a risky operation, the firefighter was transported to Verdun hospital where he was pronounced dead.
