Fired by the Canadian: Dominique Ducharme had “lost his locker room”

Former Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme, fired Wednesday in what may be the worst season in team history, has paid the price for being abandoned by his locker room, especially some veterans who know terrible seasons.

This is what our analyst Michel Bergeron argued in the moments following the announcement of Ducharme’s departure.

“I don’t know who the negative leader is in this formation, it looks like someone leads by example and everyone follows,” lamented “Bergie.”

According to him, several of the veterans with expensive long-term contracts with the team, including Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry, simply abandoned the coach.

Ducharme, who should have been tougher with these veterans, according to “Bergie”, ended up with a team that was no longer working.

The whole situation saddens him.

“When you’re a French-speaking Quebecer and you miss your first shot in the National League, it’s quite rare that you have a second opportunity,” he said. It’s unfortunate for Dominique, who remains a good coach, but the results weren’t there.
