Firearms: search in Gatineau

In line with the CENTAURE provincial strategy, the police forces of the Outaouais and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) carried out a search operation in Gatineau in the Outaouais on Wednesday.

A 34-year-old suspect from Gatineau was arrested on the spot and appeared at the Gatineau courthouse on Wednesday afternoon.

The Outaouais Regional Mixed Squad (ERM) and the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) suspected the individual of manufacturing and trafficking firearms.

The operation was made possible thanks to the participation of the public. The items seized on Wednesday will be used to demonstrate the suspect’s involvement in criminal activity.

“This search demonstrates, once again, the importance of collaboration and efforts in the area of firearms by all police services in Quebec. An operation of this magnitude confirms the effectiveness of the concerted strike force, ”said Captain Simon Riverin, head of the organized crime investigation service.

The CENTAURE strategy is mandated to ensure constant pressure on organized crime and thus actively fight against the trafficking of illegal firearms in Quebec. CENTAURE allows the Sûreté du Québec and all partner police forces to maximize their efforts at the national, regional and local levels targeting the supply, import, distribution and illegal possession of firearms. .

Any information related to the possession, trafficking or use of firearms can be communicated to the CENTAURE information line at 1-833-888-ARME (2763).
