Fire in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd | The duty

Nearly 150 firefighters are trying to control a fire in the historic Chapelle du Bon-Pasteur, a concert hall in Montreal.

The Montreal Fire Department received a call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday for “smoke billowing from the roof” of the building located at the intersection of Sherbrooke East and Saint-Dominique streets, the spokesperson said. Robert Rousseau.

“When we arrived, we noticed a fire and we declared a first alarm. The fire progressed and we had to declare a fifth alarm,” he says.

Mr. Rousseau says it is difficult to determine the cause of the fire at this stage. “It took in the attic. No one is missing, he added.

On the same social network, the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, asked the population to avoid the sector. “It is still too early to see the damage to the precious heritage building,” she tweeted, while thanking the fire crews for their “work and dedication”.

The enclosure of the Chapelle Bon-Pasteur was restored in 1985. “The unique musical instruments owned by the house – a Fazioli concert piano and a Kirckman harpsichord from 1772 – contribute to this solid reputation”, can we read on the site of the City of Montreal.
