Two women died and at least 10 people were injured in a fire early in the morning of Sunday February 18 at a retirement home in Madrid, according to emergency services. The fire, which broke out around 7 a.m. in this establishment accommodating 40 people, was extinguished by firefighters.

One of the injured was in serious condition following burns, while the others were being treated for smoke inhalation, said a Madrid emergency services official in a published video on. The other residents were evacuated, by firefighters and police, to a safe location, added one of the firefighters. According to the latter, the fire broke out in a room on the first floor, and the second floor was quickly “invaded by smoke”.
