A 14-story residential building was gutted by flames in Valencia, Spain, on Thursday February 22. At least four people lost their lives.

A fire broke out in a building in Valencia (Spain) on Thursday February 22. In amateur images, firefighters are watering to try to stem the flames, so that they do not reach a balcony on which there are still two residents. The flames started around 5:30 p.m. on the fourth floor. They spread quickly through the facade and the 138 apartments were transformed into an inferno.

Four dead and several missing

Despite the exhaustion and several injuries among the firefighters, the battle against the fire lasted all night. At least four deaths have been reported, and several missing. Around the building, the neighborhood watches in anxiety. “We say to ourselves that this could have happened to us, to anyone coming home from work,” observe a man. By Friday morning, the 14-story residence, built in 2008, was nothing more than a smoking, burning hulk. It is still impossible to enter. According to several engineers, the highly flammable material on the facade is responsible for the spread of the flames. Three days of mourning were declared in Valencia.
