The building in Old Montreal where seven people died in a violent fire last winter has just been put up for sale.
Émile Benamor, the owner of the premises, is asking for almost 3 million for the carcass of the building which went up in smoke.
” LOCATION ! LOCATION ! LOCATION ! Large plot of land with an area of 5,158 sf well located in the heart of Old Montreal in the heritage site of Place de la Fondation de Montréal,” indicates the real estate file, which does not mention the seven deaths.
“The building suffered significant damage following the fire which broke out on March 16, 2023,” the file continues. Cleanup of the site and reconstruction of the building are mandatory. »
Émile Benamor’s lawyer commented on the sale, for 2.95 million. “It remains one of the most beautiful pieces of land in town,” Me Alexandre Bergevin. Unfortunately, it comes with a sordid history. »
The fire at Place d’Youville and the seven deaths that occurred there led to the launch of multiple investigations. The presence of short-term rental accommodation and the provision of emergency exits were particularly called into question.
Last fall, The Press revealed that the police’s main suspect in this case was a murderer who had escaped from prison since 2019.
