The police explained that the body was able to be extricated from the remains of the building by the technical rescue team of the Montreal Fire Department, which has been searching the rubble since the tragedy.

The identity of this second victim could not be immediately confirmed. “The body was entrusted to the laboratory of forensic sciences and forensic medicine”, underlined a spokesperson for the Police Department of the City of Montreal, Julien Lévesque.

Other information on the progress of the research could possibly be provided on Wednesday morning, during the next press briefing from the authorities.

A first body was extricated from the rubble last Sunday.

According to information from the authorities, five people are still missing since the incident occurred in a building known to offer rental accommodation on the Airbnb platform.

On Monday and Tuesday, the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec relaunched the ball on who is responsible for supervising, and cracking down on, short-term rentals.
