In Gironde, a large part of the evacuated inhabitants were able to return to their homes, because the fire was fixed, Thursday, September 15. More than 1,800 people had been taken to shelter. For them, it is obviously a relief. Report to Saumos.

The fire that hit the Gironde was fixed on Thursday, September 15. To Saumos (Gironde)on Friday morning, there are no more flames on the horizon, but a ravaged landscape of which only ashes remain. The inhabitants are gradually returning to their homes, on the edge of a forest where a few fumaroles continue to cause concern. A couple returned on Thursday evening. On Friday, they can only see the damage, and erase the stigmata.

From the evening of Thursday, the prefecture authorized the return of the inhabitants, who left in a hurry on Monday, while the flames threatened. The inhabitants put away their hastily chosen belongings, and finally take consciousness ofto be survivors. “We have a few sleepless nights, a lot of anxiety. Afterwards, we saw that the firefighters were keeping a good watch in the village”says Frédéric Grandet, a resident of Saumos. In the villagethree houses were destroyed by the fire, which devoured nearly 3,500 hectares.
