The risk of forest fires in the Rivière du Petit Mécanita and Rivière Romaine sectors on the North Shore as well as in the Fermont region in the west of the province are qualified as “extreme” due to the dry and hot weather.
The risks are high in other regions of Quebec, including the Montérégie.
A map showing all the targeted territories is available on the SOPFEU website.
“When SOPFEU calls for caution, it means that the predicted weather indices bring conditions that will not only be conducive to the outbreak of fires, but which will also favor high intensity fires”, can we read in a press release issued by the protection body.
SOPFEU reminds us “that it is not recommended to make open fires (campfires, burning rubbish, etc.) when the fire danger varies from high to extreme or when the winds are blowing more 20 km/h”.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were no active wildfires in the province and since the start of the season there have been 258.
