Nearly 300 firefighters continue to battle the fires near Split, Croatia, where nearly 700 hectares have already gone up in smoke, as of Thursday, August 29.

A landscape of fire, on the night of Wednesday 28 to Thursday 29 August, in the very touristic area of ​​Split, Croatia. The fire that broke out on Monday has grown even larger due to intense winds and several lightning strikes. In four days, several houses threatened by the flames have been evacuated, but none have been destroyed so far. “The consequences are not yet too dramatic, I hope it will stay like this,” says a resident.

The Canadairs resumed their rotation on Thursday morning. In total, 700 hectares of land have already been ravaged. The origin of the fire has not been established, but it comes after weeks without a single drop of rain in the region. The dried-out vegetation raises fears of new outbreaks of flames every day. Among the 300 firefighters mobilized, three were injured.
