Fire brought under control at Château Frontenac

The fire that broke out at the Château Frontenac early Tuesday morning is now under control, according to the Quebec City Fire Department (SIVQ). All hotel guests have been evacuated and no one was injured.

A third alarm was triggered, which allowed additional resources to be dispatched. In total, approximately 70 firefighters responded to the call, the SIVQ emphasizes. Two hours after the start of the intervention, there were still “about twenty” firefighters.

The SIVQ received a call around 4:50 a.m. detailing the presence of water and smoke at 14e floor of the Fairmont hotel chain. A SIVQ representative confirmed that the water came from the sprinkler system, which had already “controlled a good part of the fire” when emergency services arrived.

The SIVQ has since stopped the sprinklers and is ventilating the 14e floor.

Further details will follow.
