FIQ cannot ask nurses to refuse overtime, court rules

The FIQ cannot ask its members to refuse to work overtime starting Thursday. This pressure tactic risks harming a service to which the public is entitled, the Administrative Labour Tribunal has just ruled.

In a decision that has just been rendered, the court orders the FIQ to inform its 80,000 members that they must not stop working overtime in a concerted manner starting Thursday, as announced. Nurses will have to provide their normal work performance as usual, adds the Administrative Labour Tribunal.

The court heard the complaint on this subject last Wednesday from the Council for the Protection of the Sick, following the announcement by the Interprofessional Health Federation that it would ask its members to refuse to work overtime from September 19.

Further details will follow.
