(Helsinki) Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has tested negative in a drug test she took to “dispel suspicion”, her entourage announced on Monday, after a video showing her partying sparked a wave of criticism.

Madame Marin’s urine was tested for the presence of different drugs such as cocaine, amphetamine, cannabis and opioids, said Iida Vallin, a special adviser to the prime minister.
“Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s drug test dated August 19, 2022 did not reveal the presence of drugs,” Marin’s office said in a statement, adding that the results were signed by a doctor. .
“The test was a comprehensive test. We did not choose how the test was carried out,” said Iida Vallin.
A leaked video last week showing Sanna Marin, 36, dancing and partying with a group of friends and celebrities has sparked controversy around the world.
Some had interpreted the comments heard in the video as referring to narcotics, which had been the subject of heated debate on social media and had been firmly rejected by the Prime Minister.
“To dispel any suspicion, I took a drug test today,” Sanna Marin told reporters on Friday.
The Prime Minister had previously said that she had “spent an evening with friends” and that the videos had “been filmed in private places”.
She had admitted to drinking alcohol. In addition to having denied having taken drugs, she added that she had not witnessed any drug taking by those present.
“Never in my life, and not even in my youth, did I take drugs,” she said.
Sanna Marin, appointed prime minister in 2019, had previously faced criticism following parties at her official residence.
In December 2021, she came under heavy criticism when it was revealed she had danced the night away while exposed to COVID-19.
A survey commissioned by the Finnish television channel MTV3 at the time showed that two thirds of those questioned considered that his evening was a “serious error”.
