Finland has decided to close its borders to Russians trying to flee the mobilization and the regime.
The issue of borders remains a national competence in the European Union. Finland is the fifth European country to decide to close its borders to Russians trying to flee the mobilization and the regime. Europeans are divided on the issue, with five countries on the front line, who want to maintain a very firm attitude. “Many Russians fleeing their country were okay with killing Ukrainians”assured a Latvian minister.
The countries located further west, including Germany, say they are more open to welcoming people and point out that there are international texts which oblige people to come to the aid of those who feel threatened in their country. Two meetings have taken place this week and member states are urging the European Commission to adopt a common position, explains France Télévisions journalist Julien Gasparutto.
