Amiens and its macaroons

Macaroons are a real heritage that make the city of Amiens shine. A local specialty since the 16th century, the Amiens macaroon dates back to Catherine de Medici. They are composed exclusively of natural products, the recipe has not changed since 1872. We find almonds, sugar, honey, egg white, sweet or bitter almond oils. No preservative or coloring in good macaroons!

To talk about this specialty, Jean-Alexandre Trogneux is in “The Gourmet Stage“. It tells you the family history that goes back to the time of Jean-Baptiste Trogneuxa pastry baker in downtown Amiens in 1872. Today, the family business has seven shops north of Paris, between Amiens, Arras, Lille and Saint-Quentin.

Samer’s Strawberry

In Samer, there is a rare and famous strawberry. It grows there in the ground in a municipality, through more than fifteen varieties.

The local soil and microclimate are known to be favorable for planting strawberries. Close to forty producers are settled in Samer. In the greenhouse or outdoors, there are strawberries for every taste. The harvest is done by hand because the fruit is very fragile.

Maxim Vasseur and his wife Adeline are part of these strawberry producers, at the Bellozanne farm. To keep their freshness, the fruits are sold in a short circuit within twelve hours of picking, on the local markets or in a distributor installed directly in the town!
