Indre: fine particle pollution alert
Indre: fine particle pollution alert – (France 2)
The atmosphere saturated with fine particles worries some residents of Châteauroux, in Indre, Sunday January 14. This phenomenon can notably impair respiratory functions.
This snow cover which has whitened the countryside, south of Châteauroux (Indre) since Saturday January 13, is not classic snow. This is actually industrial snow, which is formed by the combination of pollution, lack of wind and humidity, one of the signs of an atmosphere saturated with fine particles. The cause, in particular, are smoking chimneys, in homes and in factories.
The practice of sport is not recommended
This winter pollution does not prevent residents from going out, but on the Châteauroux market, the phenomenon is worrying. Doing sport is not recommended due to these fine particles, which penetrate into the pulmonary alveoli. They can impair respiratory functions. This very localized pollution peak is expected to last until Monday. The situation should improve from Tuesday.
