After her “basic training” at the European Space Agency’s astronaut center, Sophie Adenot received her diploma on April 22. She looks back on this year spent in Cologne.

French astronaut Sophie Adenot received her diploma on Monday April 22, after a year of training at the European Space Agency center in Cologne (Germany). The one who spent seventeen years in the army was moved to tears during the ceremony. “There was the emotion that arrived, and then I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t think it was going to come like that”she confides.

Among the memories of this year of basic training (basic training), Sophie Adenot quotes the “first extravehicular spacewalk training”that is to say spacewalk simulation.

“The instructor who was behind the console was linked to us by headset. And as I come out of the airlock, before starting to carry out the procedures which were really very technical and methodical, he starts to say to me ‘welcome to space ‘ [bienvenue dans l’espace]“, she relates. “Yes, in a few years, this will be a real space mission”she said to herself then. “It’s like everything is coming together little by little.”
