How many will be there to officially launch the race for the Élysée? To participate in the vote, applicants must collect 500 referrals. The mayors are solicited, but also the deputies, the senators or the presidents of the communities of communes. This represents a total of more than 42,000 elected officials in France. The contenders for the supreme office have until March 4 to collect these 500 sponsorships.
Who sponsors whom?
Since the 2017 presidential election, the list of sponsorships is public. The Constitutional Council updates it twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays as these sponsorships are validated. It is Jean-Luc Mélenchon who holds the rope here in Creuse with five sponsorships, against three to Emmanuel Macron. Valérie Pécresse, Fabien Roussel and Jean Lassale collected two sponsorships each.
