In order to reduce its financial pressures, Radio-Canada is suspending the creation of new positions until further notice.
“Hiring is not suspended, but in the current context, managing vacancies can be an effective way to reduce the financial pressures we are experiencing,” announced Director of Media Relations Leon Mar.
The Crown corporation attributes these pressures largely to the impact of inflation, labor shortages, higher expenses than before the COVID-19 pandemic as well as savings requested by the federal government.
“Our objective is to minimize the impacts on the services we offer to the Canadian population and to position ourselves well for the future,” added Mr. Mar.
Last Monday, the columnist of The Press Hugo Dumas revealed that the big boss of the French sector of Radio-Canada, Michel Bissonnette, has resigned to the CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, Catherine Tait.
At the end of September, journalist Charles-Éric Blais-Poulin from The Press reported that the public broadcaster is facing a set of “financial pressures” and that Radio-Canada management circulated the word “cuts” during a meeting with employees of the information department.
