financial donations are pouring in, “it warms my heart”

After the burglary of a Secours populaire warehouse in Isère, the association benefited from a real surge of solidarity. Donations are pouring in from communities, but also from businesses and anonymous people.

I’m stunned” blows the president of the Department of Isère while visiting the Secours populaire warehouse ransacked on December 23, causing damage of more than 300,000 euros. Jean-Pierre Barbier, who underlines “the remarkable work“of the association – helping 30,000 beneficiaries – announces the release of exceptional aid of 50,000 euros”which will be added to the 40,000 euros annually paid to Secours populaire“.

For his part, Laurent Wauquiez, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region also announces aid of 50,000 euros.to support the structure“in its reconstruction.”Many people are mobilizing and it warms my heart” confides Nabil Chetouf, secretary general of the association, who specifies that the Métropole de Grenoble will also help them.

At first, I really thought we were going to be alone.

Among the aid announced: 100,000 euros from Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale. “Through this aid, we want to demonstrate our support for the tremendous action of the Secours populaire teams and volunteers for the benefit of the most deprived.” declares Daniel Baal, its general director.

But solidarity also comes from “anonymous“as Nabil Chetouf explains, through the collection organized by the town of Échirolles since Tuesday, December 26. Among the donors, a retiree”outraged that we are attacking locals and people in need“.

The other federations of the association are also calling me to find out how to help us” smiles the general secretary of Secours populaire in Isère, looking for new premises and vehicles following the destruction of the two trucks present in the warehouse during the burglary.
