The 21-year-old, from Beaconsfield, Que., totaled 276.60 over five dives for her first career world championship medal.

Vallée was in the lead after three dives and was second before her last attempt, but she struggled to finish the event with a score of 48.10, the lowest of the 12 competitors. Despite everything, his excellent performances during his previous dives allowed him to reach the podium.

Vallée entered the Championships with five career podiums (one gold, one silver, three bronze) on the Grand Prix circuit.

The duo of Rylan Wiens of Pike Lake, Sask., and Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Montreal won Canada’s first diving medal at the World Championships with a bronze on Tuesday in the synchro men’s 10 meters.

Canada now has 13 medals (three gold, four silver, six bronze) at these worlds after winning a national record 11 medals in swimming last week.
