Invited to the 11 p.m. set of Franceinfo, filmmaker Romain Goupil explains why he decided to go to Ukraine, in the midst of a conflict with Russia, and what he saw once there.

The filmmaker Romain Goupil recounts, on the 11 p.m. set of Franceinfo Wednesday, April 27, the reasons for his departure for Ukraine. He explains that it was after a message from Ukrainian President Zolodymyr Zelensky, who called for resistance with his people against the Russian invasion, that he also decided to go there. “He represents everything we fight for, everything Europe was built for, against oppression, against the attack on freedom. He represents everything I fight for”he confides.

Once in Ukraine, the director notices that “in the families, they decided to send the children with the wives, the wives, the mothers, the grandparents outside the capital”. “The streets were empty but every person you passed was a person who had decided to stay and so it was an insurgent city. And me, in the street, I was with them. That is to say that “We passed each other, we had very little looks because it was relatively tense, and it was looks of solidarity. We are together, in kyiv and we are going to resist”says Romain Goupil.
