Young filmmaker Emmanuel Gendron-Tardif, accused of murdering his mother, has been declared unfit to appear and stand trial at this time.
The body of Lysane Gendron, 61, was found at the end of January in a dwelling on Fullum Street, in the Ville-Marie borough, in downtown Montreal.
Her 28-year-old son was arrested soon after and charged with second-degree murder.
An assessment of his mental state had been ordered from the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry Philippe-Pinel.
The report, which concludes that the young man is unfit, was presented to Judge Suzanne Costom on Tuesday morning at the Montreal courthouse, confirmed the Crown prosecutor in the file, Ms.e Anne-Andree Charette.
The Philippe-Pinel Institute recommends that he be hospitalized and under a treatment order: Judge Costom thus ordered it for a period of 30 days. After receiving this medical care, his mental state will then be assessed again, said Ms.e Cart. If the treatment works, it is possible that the young man will then be declared fit.
The case will be called again before a judge at the end of March.
Lysane Gendron was the unfortunate victim of the first murder of the year on the territory of the city of Montreal.
