(Nashville) The Nashville Predators have signed an eight-year, $68 million deal with forward Filip Forsberg, who will contribute $8.5 million annually to the team’s payroll.

The Tennessee organization confirmed the pact on Saturday, preventing Forsberg from being able to test the free agent market as early as next week. He is now under contract until 2030.
Forsberg, who turns 28 in August, is coming off the best campaign of his career. The Swede set career highs with 42 goals, 42 assists and 84 points in 69 games. He also scored eight game-winning goals, just one shy of his mark of nine in 2016-17.
He finished third in Predators scoring behind defenseman Roman Josi and Matt Duchene, who set a franchise record with 43 goals last season.
The Predators felt an agreement was so close with Forsberg that general manager David Poile opted to negotiate to retain his services rather than trade him.
The 10-year NHL veteran has scored 220 goals and 249 assists in 566 career games with the Predators. Forsberg was acquired on April 3, 2013 from the Washington Capitals in return for Martin Erat and Michael Latta.
