In an interview with LCN, the elected official commented on the results of a study on the socio-economic impact of commerce in French in Montreal, carried out by the firms Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton and Léger.

According to this study, 40% of French speakers say they will give up on their purchases if they are not greeted or served in French.

“I am happy to see that Quebecers and Montrealers in particular care about language to the point of taking the civic action of saying: ‘I don’t shop there’,” says Minister Roberge.

““Hello-hi”, it’s over, it’s happened. It’s “Hello!” what we say to people when we enter a business,” he adds.

The latter even believes that consumers can go even further to ensure that they are always served in French.

“If you are not satisfied and if you really are not served in French despite your request, file a complaint with the Office québécois de la langue française. We must not let this pass,” proclaims Jean-François Roberge.
