The Canadian Olympic Committee continues to believe that the Canadian figure skating team deserves the bronze medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.
The COC also considers insufficient a statement from the International Skating Union explaining its re-awarding of medals, after a Russian skater was banned due to a doping case.
The ISU ruled that Russia should advance from gold to bronze despite Kamila Valieva’s disqualification.
Canada finished fourth in Beijing behind Russia, the United States and Japan.
The ISU released an amended ranking from the Beijing competition where Valieva lost the maximum 10 points in each of her two events, with no additional points added to the other teams.
The new results put Russia one point ahead of Canada, while the United States and Japan move up one place.
In a statement Friday, the ISU said the reallocation of points could negatively impact the teams’ relative rankings.
“We do not believe that the ISU statement offers any further clarity or justification. We continue to believe that the Canadian team should receive the bronze medal following the CAS decision, the COC said in a press release.
“We are working closely with Skate Canada to evaluate our options for appealing this case. »
