10:35 p.m. : The waves, like a weapon of war. In the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, Russian soldiers hacked into a local radio station to broadcast propaganda in Ukrainian. In this report, our journalist Mathilde Dehimi met the listeners who discovered the pot of roses. Example of false information heard on the air: “The goal [de Kiev] is to create and use biological weapons, outside Ukraine, with the support of the United States and to create new strains of viruses.”
9:00 p.m. : A new freight train has derailed following an explosion on the tracks, in the Russian region of Bryansk. “An unidentified explosive device detonated near Snejetskaya station”said the governor of this border region with Ukraine, the day after a similar derailment in the same area. “The incident led to the derailment of a locomotive and several train cars”he specified.
7:14 p.m. : Three people were killed in artillery strikes in the Kherson region, and five others were injured, announces the local prosecutor on Telegram. Ukrainian justice says homes and businesses were affected.
7:14 p.m. : Celebrated as “Victory Day” against Nazi Germany in Russia, May 9 will not go as planned in several parts of the country. The governors of six of them have announced the cancellation of the traditional parades for security reasons, reports the Guardian (in English).
5:09 p.m. : While Russia’s offensive in Ukraine has heightened concerns about the future of the Baltic countries, Denmark has announced that it will send a battalion to Latvia next year as part of NATO. He will also have the role of defending Estonia and Lithuania “in the event of a crisis”.
2:31 p.m. : Have there really been 20,000 Russians killed and 80,000 wounded in Ukraine in the last five months? The Kremlin rejects the estimate of American intelligence mentioned earlier by the Guardian. An estimation “out of nowhere”says the Russian presidency, quoted by the British daily.
12:21 p.m. : The International Judo Federation (IJF) announces that it has retaken eight names within the delegation proposed by Russia for the World Championships which begin on Saturday in Qatar. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to participate under a neutral banner (in response, Ukraine is boycotting the event), but the IFJ had announced that it would exclude people who expressed “support or opinions on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”. She did not specify the identity of the eight excluded and the reasons for this decision.
11:15 a.m. : She held up an anti-war placard on Russian television. Marina Ovsiannikova explains her gesture on France Inter. “I wanted to destroy the propaganda” set up by the Kremlin, assures this dissident journalist.
