fighting continues in the Lugansk region

Despite the fighting which intensifies in the region of Lugansk (Ukraine), the inhabitants remain in place: “Here we are at home, that’s all we have. We grew up here, where should we go?”, says a resident of Lysytchansk. As the Russians raze the buildings so that there is nothing left to defend, the inhabitants can no longer turn to the local authorities: “There is no one. Everyone has fled. They have abandoned the people”laments another resident.

Near Sievierodonetsk, the situation seems to be turning to the advantage of the Russians, despite a Ukrainian counter-attack. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, several areas have been liberated and the takeover of this industrial city is near. This capture would allow the Russians to consolidate their influence in the Donbass region. A difficult situation for the Ukrainian troops according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who nevertheless affirms that his troops are holding up. Between 10,000 and 15,000 civilians are still in the city of Sievierodonetsk, according to kyiv.
