A watchdog for hate groups in Canada is launching an online guide to help identify, confront and prevent any form of hate expression in the classroom and on the web.

The president of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, Bernie Farber, says he has seen an increase in hate crimes involving young people and adults and believes that silence is no longer an option.
Mr. Farber reports that recent heinous attacks have been perpetrated by young people, including the violent assault of a black student in Edmonton by seven alleged assailants. The latter allegedly beat him, shouting racist insults at him.
The anti-hate network says it has collected various testimonies of real cases experienced by educators, including one concerning a student who distributed leaflets promoting hatred on school grounds.
The online guide provides a series of steps to take to help a child victim of manipulation.
The federal government has invested $35 million to support 175 anti-racism projects across Canada, including this online guide. However, the tool is only available in English on the organization’s web portal.
Separately, Federal Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen said the materials were free and had been distributed directly to schools so they could run workshops on racism with their students.
