Fifa will decide “before July 20” the request from the Palestinian Football Federation to suspend the Israeli Federation due in particular to the war in the Gaza Strip, promised the head of the body Gianni Infantino on Friday May 17.
The Italian-Swiss leader refused to vote on this point at the 74th Congress of the organization, meeting Friday in Bangkok, as the president of the Palestinian Federation (PFA) had demanded in front of the representatives of the 210 other member federations.
PFA’s demands for sanctions against its Israeli counterpart (IFA) “are within the competence of the FIFA Council”or the executive of the body, “and must be managed by this body”estimated Gianni Infantino.
Considering “the emergency” of the situation, “extraordinary advice” will be organized by July 20 “to make the most appropriate decisions”while its next ordinary meeting was scheduled for October, the leader nevertheless promised.
