The European, African and South American football confederations have agreed on a single candidacy for the 2030 World Cup. Fifa revealed this in a press release on Wednesday October 4. The FIFA council has validated the principle of a single opening ceremony in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, which will also host a meeting. Two more are planned in South America, one in Argentina and one in Paraguay. The rest of the competition will take place in Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
Once the technical criteria have been validated, the football body will officially award the organization of its flagship event, the most popular competition in the world, at the end of 2024, marking with this unique formula the centenary of the first edition organized in Uruguay in 1930.
