The fighting continued on Wednesday May 4 in Mariupol, Ukraine, in the Azovstal factory, the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance. The town’s mayor says contact has been lost with civilians who are still entrenched at the site.
On a propaganda clip, the pro-Russian separatists display their strike force. For weeks, intensive bombardments have been falling on the Azovstal factory, in Mariupol (Ukraine). But it’s hard to say what exactly is happening in this metallurgical complex: Russian tanks are in the vicinity and an offensive is underway. On the other hand, Moscow (Russia) denies having launched an assault.
The mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boitchenko, gives another version: he affirmed, Wednesday May 4, that the combats are very violent, and that the Ukrainian combatants would always be entrenched in the factory. “Unfortunately today we lost contact with our fighters. And we don’t know what’s going on, whether they’re safe or not.”, said the elected Ukrainian. For the civilians who were able to be evacuated from the factory and who arrive in Zaporizhia (Ukraine), under Ukrainian control, the relief is immense, even if many are still terrified.
