According to a study, the British Health Agency indicates that the risk of hospitalization due to the Omicron variant is 70% lower than the risk of the Delta variant, Thursday 23 December. The doctor Damien Mascret is live from the 20 Heures plateau to take stock of the situation.

The new British study is reassuring “because we see a reduction in hospitalizations when we are infected with Omicron which ranges from 50% to 70% compared to the infection with the Delta variant“, says doctor Damien Mascret live from the 20 Hours plateau. There is however of them limitations to this study. The first is that we are in a study taking place in London where there is an increase in hospitalizations.“, recalls the doctor.

And the second limit cis that the epidemic is spreading among young people “and in young people we know that there are fewer serious forms“, explains the doctor. Omicron would therefore be less dangerous than the Delta for older people.First of all, more of them have recalled. But also for anatomical reasons. Researchers in Hong Kong have shown that with the Delta variant we had a lot of variants and viruses which descended into the lungs and that made serious forms. While with Omicron it goes less into the lungs, there are therefore fewer serious forms“, continues Damien Mascret.
