Monnarque castle, an emblem saved from oblivion
Built in the 12th and 14th centuries, the Château de Commarque is an absolutely remarkable medieval ensemble in Périgord. It was a joint lordship. The site was inhabited until the 1500s, before being gradually deserted.
This place almost fell into oblivion and disappeared, but it was saved and discovered by a direct descendant who bore the same name. Hubert de Commarque and Aude de Commarque tell you the story of a castle like no other, the rescue of which was one of the most beautiful gestures of preserving medieval heritage in France.
Visitable, the fortress offers activities throughout the year, including shows of chivalry and weapons, abseiling on the stone walls, festivals or even an escape game on the history of Commarque. Something to delight young and old if you pass by.
