The Ferrero factory in Arlon, Belgium, has been shut down again for several days after the discovery of salmonella, France Bleu Lorraine Nord learned on Tuesday. But there won’t be “no impact on employment“, says the management.

The factory has been partially closed for several days, after the discovery of salmonella. The company has again had to stop part of its production, management announced in a press release last Thursday, consulted by France Bleu Lorraine Nord, to carry out the cleaning and complete sanitation of the site. But there won’t be “no impact on employment”says the company. “Each step of the process is carried out in full and transparent cooperation with the Belgian Food Safety Authority”adds the management.

A first salmonella contamination in April 2022

Salmonella are bacteria that cause food infections. They were found within the perimeter of the company, explains the management, without any “end product” having tested positive, she assures.

In April 2022, a few days before Easter, the factory had already had to close after the discovery of salmonella. The Ferrero group then had to recall hundreds of tons of Kinder chocolates.

The Italian group had claimed that the contamination came from a filter at the outlet of two tanks of raw materials. It had been removed. The production had been blocked and the products had not been delivered. Ferrero assured that “more than 2,000 tests” were carried out in January 2022 and that controls were strengthened during this period.
