Fernandez loses in the quarter-finals at the French Open

Visibly inconvenienced by a foot injury, Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez lost her flag in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

She lost to the Italian Martina Trevisan, victorious in three sets 6-2, 6-7 (3) and 6-3.

The 17th-seeded Fernandez appeared to be hampered by a right foot problem early in the game. She also had the right to a medical break when she trailed 2-3 in the first set.

Trevisan took advantage of this to save themselves with the first set.

Despite her discomfort, Fernandez was true to herself and she never gave up. After saving a match point at 4-5 in the second set, she snatched the second set in the tiebreaker.

After showing her resilience again in the third set, Fernandez finally conceded victory to her rival.

Trevisan will face the winner of the duel between Americans Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens in the semi-finals later in the day.
