Feminism c. feminism | The Journal of Montreal

At first glance, it’s a debate that seems abstruse, abstract and as relevant as the question of how many angels can dance the Macarena on the head of a needle.

But in fact, this debate has very concrete repercussions.

I am talking about this confrontation over the kind of feminism that the Minister for the Status of Women, Martine Biron, should defend.

THE PANTHEON OF VICTIMIZATION

Yes, I know, this theoretical quibble is happening 25,000 feet above most people’s heads and won’t change the price of iceberg lettuce.

But follow me, you’ll see, it’s exciting.

On Tuesday, Quebec solidaire (along with the Parti Québécois and the Liberal Party of Quebec, which one wonders what they were doing in this mess) tabled a motion without notice asking the National Assembly to encourage “differentiated analysis according to gender from an intersectional perspective”.

Of kesse?

What does intersectionality eat in winter?

It’s simple.

For supporters of “traditional” (or “universal”) feminism, a woman is a woman, period. And feminism should stand up for all women equally.

But supporters of “intersectional” feminism like the members of QS (and those of the PLQ and PQ, who seem to have drunk the Kool-Aid woke handed to them by Ruba Ghazal, surely thinking it was Gatorade), women are not all equal.

At the bottom are white women, privileged among the oppressed.

Then, as you climb the steps of the Hall of Victimization, black women. Lesbian black women. Muslim lesbian black women.

Black lesbian muslim women with disabilities. Poor disabled muslim lesbian black women.

Black women lesbian muslim disabled poor trans.

And, at the very top of the podium, the exploited woman’s gold medal, I named the Black Lesbian Muslim Disabled Poor Trans Migrant Woman.

If in addition, she can suffer from cholesterol or gout, even better.

In short, the more layers of “victim” you have on your back, the better.

And the more the government should pull out its claws to defend you.

WHAT DOES PQ DO WITH QS?

That’s the version of feminism that QS (and, oddly, the PQ and the PLQ, which have decided to dance the continental at the Blue Room alongside GND) defends.

A feminism cut into slices.

As George Orwell would say in animal farm “All women are born equal, but some are more equal than others. »

Fortunately, Minister Martine Biron is staying the course. And refuses to embrace this ideology which was filed by QS for one and only reason.

Attacking Law 21 which would harm veiled Muslim women, exploited among the exploited.

That the PQ did not understand this maneuver which is as big as Brendan Fraser in The Whale is mind-boggling.

It’s called shooting yourself in the foot. With the QS revolver.

In short, hats off to Ms. Biron and the CAQ for standing up, THEM, in front of this woke initiative.

Which weakens women instead of making them stronger.
