Femicide in Montreal: her husband allegedly stabbed her twenty times

A 32-year-old woman was allegedly brutally stabbed to death by her husband on Friday morning in the Pointe-aux-Trembles neighborhood in eastern Montreal.

According to our information, it was the suspect himself who contacted 911 a little before 8 a.m. to confess what he had just done.

When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the victim, Narjess Ben Yedder, in a terrible state: she had just been stabbed in the stomach around twenty times, according to our sources.

Daniel Dumas, who lives in the apartment below where the tragedy took place, was still asleep when he heard very loud footsteps, which is rather abnormal in this generally peaceful building, according to him.

“Usually, it’s quiet, but then I heard screaming, as if there were several people,” he tells Newspaper.

Then total silence. The retiree then saw the horde of police arrive at his block of apartments.

“I am stunned to learn what happened. It’s unreal right now,” he says sadly, adding that he had never heard arguments from his neighbors before.

Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted to bring the victim back to life, but they were quickly abandoned since there was unfortunately nothing more to be done for her. His death was pronounced on the spot.

The victim’s husband, Mustapha Mechken, 42, was arrested at the scene of the murder. He was transported to a police station, where he was expected to be questioned by investigators later that day.

The couple had been married for three years and had lived for several years in a home located on rue Sherbrooke Est, near avenue Yves-Thériault, in the Pointe-aux-Tremble district.

At the end of the morning, major crimes investigators from the Montreal police were at the scene of the murder and were preparing to meet potential witnesses to the tragedy.

Forensic identification technicians had to inspect the crime scene in search of clues and evidence that could explain the circumstances of the femicide.

The alleged perpetrator of the femicide was not known to police circles and had no criminal history, just like his wife.

The police had never gone to their home in the past for a report of violence.

This would already be the second femicide to occur in the province since the start of the year. At the beginning of January, Chloé Lauzon-Rivard, 29, was murdered in a home in Granby. Her partner, Michaël Dugas-Farcy, was arrested and charged with unpremeditated murder.
