Tuesday August 2, the female pandas of the zoo of Beauval, in the Loir-et-Cher, celebrate their first year. Since their birth, they have attracted more than a million visitors to the animal park.

The media from all over the world were at the Beauval zoo on Tuesday August 2 to celebrate the anniversary of the two baby pandas born a year ago. Each female received an apple and bamboo cake. A large crowd is present to celebrate this anniversary. “Pandas are my favorite animal, so I’m very happy“, says a little girl. In one year, the twin pandas, stars of the zoo, have grown well. At their last weighing, their weight was close to 30kg.

At birth, panda cubs weighed less than 150g. For five months, they were protected and pampered, away from the zoo public. Raising these twins is a feat. “This is exceptional because often pandas give birth to two babies, but usually they only raise the strongest, the bigger and weaker one dies“, explains Rodolphe Delord, director of the ZooParc de Beauval in Saint-Aignan (Loir-et-Cher). In 2021, 1.4 million visitors came to admire the pandas at the zoo.
