Félix Auger-Alissime reaches the semi-final in Montpellier

Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime qualified for the semi-finals of the Montpellier tournament on Friday with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Frenchman Harold Mayot.

This will be a first presence in the final four for “FAA” this season.

Auger-Aliassime (30e) was dominant in the second set, offering no break points to Mayot (144e). He broke his opponent’s serve twice and delivered the final blow with balls in hand.

In the first set, the Quebecer responded blow for blow to his opponent’s first two breaks to return to equal service each time. He won the set with a third break, just as Mayot tried to force a tiebreaker.

Auger-Aliassime had 10 aces and placed 72% of his first service balls in play during this duel which lasted 1 hour 20 minutes.

He now has an appointment with the Kazakh Alexander Bublik (27e). The two men crossed swords three times on the ATP circuit, with Auger-Aliassime signing two victories.
