Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime lost 6-1, 6-1 to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz on Friday in the semi-finals of the men’s singles tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics.
After four near-perfect performances, Auger-Aliassime, 13e seeded, hit a wall against Alcaraz, No. 2. He bowed out after a duel lasting just one hour and 15 minutes.
The 21-year-old Spaniard has won the last two Grand Slam titles, including the French Open this spring, when he defeated Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16 en route to his triumph.
Alcaraz has now won his last 12 singles matches at Roland Garros.
In the bronze medal match, Auger-Aliassime will play the loser of the other semi-final between Serbian Novak Djokovic and Italian Lorenzo Musetti on Saturday. Alcaraz will face the winner of that duel in the gold medal match on Sunday.
Auger-Aliassime will return to action later today at Roland Garros, where he will play alongside Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski in the bronze medal match in the mixed doubles, against the Netherlands’ Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof.
