Felix Auger-Aliassime | “Fortunately for me, the season is not over”

Félix Auger-Aliassime admits his season hasn’t gone the way he wanted so far.

Illnesses, injuries and early setbacks in competitions have all played a role.

The tennis player, however, says he feels good mentally and he hopes to give a new look to his season.

“It is clear that this is not the season I would have hoped for so far, he said, coming from Paris. Fortunately for me, the season is not over. »

Knee injuries have marred his performance in Miami, Dubai and Indian Wells.

He was also beaten in the first round at Wimbledon, where he was the 11^e first in the series.

At the Australian Open, he lost in the fourth round.

Things have not been easy for the one who had the sixth rank at the ATP in November 2022.

“If I can bring the physical side back to the field, I know the results will come back. I know myself more and more over the years. »

The 22-year-old Montrealer remains the best Canadian at the ATP, in 12^e place.

For now, Auger-Aliassime says, the focus is on staying mentally strong as he continues to work to secure a place in the top 10.

Mentally, of course, there are ups and downs. You don’t feel this confident every week. But I feel mentally stable, I feel good. I am very focused and motivated. I have confidence in my abilities.

He will soon be in action at the Citi Open where he will be the fourth seed, in Washington. From there, he will take part in the National Bank Open in Toronto.

Auger-Aliassime would like to turn the tide in front of a partisan audience, at a tournament where he never became the champion. He lost there in the quarter-finals in 2022.

“It’s always an important tournament outside of the Grand Slams, of course,” he said. It’s still important. As a player, it’s always nice to win in front of a home crowd. It’s nice to win in Canada. I hope to be able to win this tournament during my career. »
