Félix Auger-Aliassime advances to the third round in Indian Wells

(Indian Wells) Félix Auger-Aliassime beat Pedro Martinez 7-6 (5) 6-4 on Saturday to advance to the third round in Indian Wells.




Eighth in the series, the Quebecer defeated the Spaniard in two hours and 25 minutes.

Auger-Aliassime had a 2-1 break advantage, in addition to collecting 10 breaks in the game.

The Canadian also dominated 29-9 for winners.

Tenth racket in the world, Auger-Aliassime will have as next rival Jack Sock or Francisco Cerundolo, 27e Headlining.

Leylah Fernandez of Laval, 30e seeded, won 6-2, 6-4 over Emma Navarro of the United States, 128e at the WTA.

Fernandez overcame nine double faults, in part because her rival committed five herself.

The Quebecer had the upper hand 5-2 for breaks and 2-0 for aces.

His next opponent will be Dalma Galfi or fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia.

Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu, 32e seeded, will play in the evening against American Peyton Stearns, 126e.

The winner will find on her way the favorite, Iga Swiatek.
