Health: fee overruns for specialist doctors are increasing

Health: fee overruns for specialist doctors are increasing – (France 2)

One in two private doctors overcharge their fees. Gynecologists, ophthalmologists and anesthesiologists are particularly concerned.

Treatment is becoming more and more expensive in France, particularly in large cities and on the Mediterranean coast when you have to go see a specialist. One in two private doctors overcharge their fees, or 6% more than in 2019. Dermatologists, cardiologists, anesthetists… Practitioners impose their prices on patients. In Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes), a gastroenterologist sees a patient for the first time. The cost of the consultation is 65 euros, or 35 euros more than the agreed rate.

UFC-Que Choisir requires a cap on overruns

According to the doctor, this excess is necessary to cope with the loads. Three professions are particularly concerned: 71% of gynecologists exceed the agreed rates, 66% of ophthalmologists and 58% of anesthesiologists. An obstetrician believes that excesses should not be systematic. To avoid inequalities in care, the UFC-Que Choisir is calling for a cap on excesses.
