Federal dental insurance extended to children and the disabled on June 27

The Liberal government announced it will expand eligibility for the federal dental program to children and people with disabilities on June 27.

Federal Citizens’ Services Minister Terry Beech said children under 18 (or their parents) and people who benefit from the disability tax credit will be able to apply for it on that date.

The government estimates this will expand eligibility to some 1.2 million people.

Those affected must not be insured and have a household income of less than $90,000 per year to benefit from the program.

Eligibility will be fully expanded to include everyone meeting these criteria in January 2025.

The deployment of the program was negotiated with the New Democrats as part of a political pact aimed at preventing the holding of early elections.
