Federal by-election in Alberta | Easy victory for the Conservatives in Calgary Heritage

(Calgary) The Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) won Monday’s federal by-election in the riding of Calgary Heritage in southern Alberta.

Shuvaloy Majumdar, who was a political adviser to former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and former Conservative Foreign Minister John Baird, was easily elected with 65% of the vote.

The Liberal Party (PLC) and the New Democratic Party (NDP) were virtually tied for second place, a long way behind the winner.

Voter turnout in Calgary Heritage was low with just over 28% of eligible voters exercising their right to vote.

The seat of Calgary Heritage has been vacant in the House of Commons since the resignation of Conservative MP Bob Benzen who decided to return to the private sector.
