Fears of seeing the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas spread to the entire region increased further on Wednesday January 3, after an unclaimed attack which left 95 dead in Iran, the day after the elimination of a senior Hamas official in Lebanon. Accusing them “evil and criminal enemies” of Iran, the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reacted by promising “a harsh response” to this “disaster”. Hezbollah leader warns Israel. The leader of powerful pro-Iranian Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, warned that his group would fight “without limits” if Israel declared war on Lebanon, the day after the elimination of the number two of Palestinian Hamas near Beirut. “No one has any interest in escalation” in the region, reacted the American State Department. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna called for “the responsibility”.
Germany calls on its nationals to leave Lebanon. “The security situation in the region is very volatile”assured the German Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, calling on German nationals to leave this country “by the most rapid means”.
A new Israeli hostage is dead. The Israeli military confirmed Wednesday that Israeli hostage Sahar Baruch, kidnapped during the October 7 attack by Hamas, was killed during a rescue operation in Gaza in December.
